Accelerated success
Two new buildings that will stand as beacons to education, innovation and a new generation of students are on track for completion by the end of the year.
Monash University campuses at Berwick and Clayton will be home to the two new specialist secondary schools that will accept a total of up to 450 students
in the first semester of 2010.
The Berwick campus will host Victoria's first co-educational selective entry secondary school, while development is also well underway on the new John Monash Science School at the Clayton campus. Both are joint projects with the Victorian Government.
Selective-entry academic schools provide an educationally enriched environment for high-achieving, academically-gifted students. There are currently two selective entry high schools in Victoria -- Melbourne High School and Mac.Robertson Girls' High School.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Adam Shoemaker said both projects would develop innovative teaching and programs that would engage and enthuse students and teachers alike.
"The establishment of these schools is supported by international and interstate experience which shows students who study in specialist schools achieve improved learning outcomes within the specialty and across the course of study," Professor Shoemaker said.
