Beijing bonds

One hundred and eighteen Monash graduates have celebrated their success with families and friends in Beijing, China.

The first ever Monash graduation ceremony in China was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in February and presided over by Monash Chancellor Dr Alan Finkel.

The University regularly hosts offshore graduation ceremonies in Kuala Lumpur, Johannesburg, Hong Kong and Singapore,
but this was the first held in Beijing.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Larkins said graduation was the culmination of hard work, study and experience at university and a celebration of students' academic achievements.

"The Beijing graduation provided students with the opportunity to share the special moment and their achievements with their families and friends," Professor Larkins said.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Stephanie Fahey said the University had strong links with China.

"As well as hosting students from China, Monash has a very active program of research with leading Chinese universities including Sichuan University and Peking University," Professor Fahey said.

The graduation address was delivered by the Australian Ambassador to China, Dr Geoff Raby.
