Attendance

Although university is a fun and liberating experience, the onus is on you to be more independent. You are treated like an adult, which is obviously terrific, but you need to ensure you allocate time to learn. Even though you can choose whether or not to attend lectures and classes, I quickly learnt to appreciate tutorials, especially when some of the lecture material was too overwhelming. The tutorials provide a good cross section of view points that may not have been covered in the lectures and help to understand the subject material much better. It's also great that when you can't attend lectures, you can listen to them online and get notes from the subject home page.
