Clayton Student President's Welcome

Welcome to uni, and congrats on making it to Monash Clayton, one of the greatest uni campuses in Australia, if not the world!

O-week is going to go off in 2009. It's really critical you come down to O-week and don't miss out on the massive events the MSA is putting on. From Host Scheme Day on the Monday, through the Clubs Carnival from Tuesday to Thursday, with loads of free food and drink available, cancel any plans for the week! Host Scheme Night on Monday is always an epic event with thousands of first year students rocking out, while Music on Menzies will bring live music acts to Clayton for a very special twilight concert. It's all thanks to your MSA.

As President of your Monash Student Association (MSA), I'm here to represent you and your interests to your tutors, lecturers, the university, government and wider community. We're here to help when things go wrong - if you fail a couple of subjects, or can't afford food or clothing, or need a safe space as a female or queer student, our welfare and support services are here for you. On top of all that, we administer and subsidise all the non-sporting clubs on campus, and run ourselves the biggest events on campus, from Host Scheme Camps and the O-week carnival right through to the giant After Exams Parties.

Most importantly, the MSA is here to engage YOU on every level! Whether you want to volunteer in our student-run restaurant, star in our award-winning theatre shows, help out the rocking Activities crew delivering awesome events, get involved in Host Scheme, support campaigns of the Education and Welfare departments, write an article for the campus newspaper Lot's Wife, start up a new club, or join the fight for a fair go for Indigenous, Queer or Female students on campus - we need YOU to make it all happen! Get involved at the MSA tables at the O-week carnival, come see us on the top level of the Campus Centre just off the airport lounge, or visit MSA website.

Essential to getting the most out of O-week and uni in general is getting an MSA Culture Card. With hefty discounts at all MSA outlets (Wholefoods Restaurant, Sir John's Bar, Short Courses, John Medley Library), and cheaper tickets and drinks at massive MSA events (Host Scheme Night, After Exams Party, Comedy Night, Oktoberfest), big cuts to the price of club memberships (with over 100 clubs to choose from), plus loads of BBQ's throughout semester, getting an MSA Culture Card really is a no-brainer of a decision. Sign up today to support your student union because it supports you!

The MSA is here to serve your needs, so if you ever have any issues, make sure you get in touch with me or any other MSA office bearers or staff. See you at O-week!
