Berwick Student President's Welcome

Congratulations on being accepted into Monash University! The hard work you’ve obviously done over the last few years has paid off and you’re now finally a uni student. And I must say, your taste in campuses is mighty fine.

At Berwick we’re really proud of the friendly and vibrant atmosphere of our campus. You can’t walk down the corridor without running into people you know, whether they’re other students, lecturers or Mike the cleaner. As Professor Steele wrote, many of the people at our campus are from overseas, and they enrich our culture even more.

It’s free to join MUBS (the Monash Union of Berwick Students), and it’s really important that you do. Up until 2006, all students in Australia were automatically members of their student organisation, but the Federal Government has changed all this, and now each individual must decide for themselves whether they wish to join. I highly recommend that you do join MUBS, because then you can be sure that there will be people to stand by you and help if things don’t go as smoothly as you’d like. Joining MUBS also ensures that there is a voice for students on campus, and that uni is about more than hard work – there’s this thing called fun too!

I really look forward to meeting you during O-Week, so come up and say g’day! We’ve got heaps planned for you, so take the week off work and get ready to make friends and have the time of your life. On the weekend following O-Week we’re heading to camp, so don’t make any other commitments!
