It was the first time a dedicated team from Monash had participated in the annual event.
ABC radio's Virginia Trioli, who was master of ceremonies on the day, made special mention of Monash Sport's first-time effort.
Participants could choose to either run or walk around a four kilometre or eight kilometre track at Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens.
Monash Sport sports development officer at the Peninsula campus, Mr Tim Wallace, was the star of the Monash Sport team, finishing third in the four kilometre run.
"I was very pleased to have such a good result, while also helping to raise money for a worthy cause and supporting the Monash Sport team," Mr Wallace said.
Clayton Fitness Centre manager and team coordinator Mr David Collopy said he was very pleased with the Monash community's involvement.
"This is a wonderful, worthwhile event," he said. "Team Monash had a ball and took pride in the fact that we were doing something for such a good cause."
"It's also a great opportunity for the Monash community to come together and get to know each other."
The Mothers' Day Classic began in 1998 and has so far raised more than $1.3 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that promotes and supports research into breast cancer prevention and treatment.
Mr Collopy said Monash Sport would also be entering teams in the upcoming Around the Bay in a Day challenge and Melbourne Marathon. He invites all members of the Monash community to join in.
