Population Growth

Australia experienced rapid population growth in the years 2007-2009. The rate of growth declined after reaching its peak in 2008. The decline was reversed in 2011, stabilised in 2012-13 and declined again in 2014.

The preliminary estimated population was 23,490,700 at 30 June 2014, an increase of 364,900 people since 30 June 2014.

The annual growth rate was estimated at 1.6% during the year ended 30 June 2014. This compares with growth of 2.2% in 2008, 1.8% in 2009, 1.4% in 2010, 1.6% in 2011, and 1.8% in 2012, and 1.7% in 2013.
