Relay for Life
Time to dust off your walking shoes - Relay for Life
Murrumbeena is on again!! Monash Caulfield will be putting a
team on the track and if you'd like to be part of the team - get in
contact with Nick Karavias of Campus Life.
Relay for Life - Murrumbeena will be held from midday
Saturday 28 October to midday Sunday 29 October and will once again
be at the Duncan McKinnon Reserve, Murrumbeena. For those who have
participated before, you'll know the process, but for those who not
yet taken part, here are some details of the event:
What is Relay for Life? Relay for Life is an
overnight team event to raise funds for cancer research, education
and patient support programs.
How does it work? It's a team event. Teams are
10 people or more and the challenge is for teams to complete a
relay-style walk or run. Team members take turns to keep their
baton moving, during the day, overnight, all the while enjoying the
festive atmosphere that is created through live entertainment,
camping, spot prizes and most importantly enjoying the company of
hundreds of other people on the track.
Highlights of Relay for Life include the Opening and Closing
Ceremonies, the Survivors' Walk and the Candlelight Ceremony.
Who can participate? Everyone is welcome - staff, students
family members and friends of staff and students. It is also
an event where no training is required!! People of all ages
and all levels of fitness participate, children, grandparents,
everyone is encouraged to participate.
So, if you're interested in being part of the Monash Caulfield
team - if you can only spare 30 minutes or an hour during the
weekend, you'd still be welcomed, email Nick Karavias:
nick.karavias@campuslife.monash.edu.au to express your interest.

Campus Life Fitness Events
The Melbourne Marathon Festival will be
held on Sunday 8 October, 2006. Run the full marathon – 42
kilometres. Walk or run the half marathon – 21 kilometres or for
those out for a leisurely stroll – take part in the 7.5 kilometre
walk (ideal for those with children or babes in pushers).
In 2005 John White, completed the 21 kilometre
walk – in just under four hours – a mighty effort, considering that
John had recently finished a course of radiation and chemotherapy
treatment in his fight with lung cancer. Sadly John passed away
earlier this year. Helen Dunne and myself had the privilege of
walking with John last year, and as a tribute to him we will be doing
it again this year. Julie Baxter (Peninsula campus) will be joining
us this year and it would be terrific for other members of staff or
past colleagues of John’s to join us on Sunday 8 October.
For more information on the event and how to
register as part of 'Team Monash' go to

Global Corporate Challenge - 2006
Pleased to report that the Monash Caulfield Global Corporate
Challenge team is still in the top 10 - team members pacing out over 22,000 steps

Rod Simpson
Rod Simpson, recently retired staff member of the Faculty of
IT and Justice of the Peace, who regularly attends the campus on
Tuesdays to assist staff and students with the witnessing of
documents etc., has recently undergone bypass heart surgery.
His family has been in contact and have advised that the surgery
went to plan and he is currently recovering in Cabrini Hospital.
His recuperation will be 12-14 weeks and therefore, it is
unlikely he will return to the campus in 2006. The family has
asked that we pass on that Rod would love to hear from friends and
past colleagues of Monash Caulfield via email :
rod.simpson@hotmail.com
We wish Rod a speedy recovery and look forward to his return in

Caulfield Profiles
This month Arthur Lambiris, Services Officer of Facilities &
Services, has agreed to be profiled. As you can see, Arthur is
a man of few words .....
What is your position here at Monash Caulfield?
Services Officer, Facilities & Services.
How long have you been with Monash?
I've been at Monash for nearly 2.5 years - started in April 2004. .
What do you like to do in your spare time?
- Play soccer;
- Watch footy - I see that he didn't reveal which
team he barracks for!!
Do you have a favourite quote you would like to share?
"No expectations, no disappointments."
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
As I really enjoy my job, and with things continually changing
here at the Caulfield campus, I imagine I'll still be here.
Have you travelled very much? If so, where was your favourite
destination? If not, do you have plans to travel soon?
I travelled
through Europe in 2000 for six months and this year travelled to
Germany to watch Australia in its first three matches of the World
Cup - just awesome. After Germany spent some time in the Greek
Islands - but now back to reality!!
If you would like to be "profiled" in an upcoming edition of Offcourse, please email me at Christel.Kent@adm.monash.edu.au.
