Opening Hours Service Centre - Start of Semester

To assist and provide greater support for the coursework students who study during the evening, the Service Centre will be open later for the first three weeks of Semester One.

The opening hours for the Service Centre during the first three weeks will be:

Monday to Thursday - 8.30 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.

Friday - 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

If the extended  opening hours prove successful, the Service Centre will continue the practice at the start of each semester.

Disability Liaison Unit

The DLU provides direct services to students who have a disability or chronic medical condition to enable them to fulfill the inherent requirements of a course as independently as possible.

 ELIGIBILITY FOR SERVICES

An assessment of each student is undertaken based on relevant and current documentation from a qualified professional e.g. Medical Specialist, Psychiatrist, or Educational Psychologist.  Documentation must include details of the way disability impacts on study and recommended reasonable accommodations.

 REFERRING STUDENTS TO THE DLU

Some students may not be aware of services available to assist them or find it very difficult to seek assistance. You can help by encouraging students to make contact with us by mentioning the DLU to all students at the start of the semester.

 DISCLOSURE OF DISABILITY AND CONFIDENTIALITY

It is the student's responsibility to disclose their disability.  Monash encourages disclosure by indicating disability on the Student Enrolment form and by direct confidential contact with the Disability Liaison Unit (DLU).  Students receive a confidential consultation and information will not be released to anyone without the permission of the student.

 ADVICE AND SUPPORT FOR STAFF

The DLU is available to advise:

§          Academic staff regarding teaching strategies or reasonable  accommodations to assist students who have a particular disability.

§          Staff who have a disability and their supervisors.

The Staff Disability Policy and Procedures are available at:

http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/sss/pc/equity/dlu/Staff_disability.htm

Staff training/workshops can also be provided on request to meet individual needs of Faculties/Departments. Topics may include understanding learning disability and managing difficult behaviours.
